Last updated: July 1, 2025
Democracy House (“we” or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our web and mobile sites (collectively, our “Site”). This Privacy Notice (“Privacy Notice”) explains our online information practices.
This Privacy Notice may be supplemented or amended from time to time by privacy notices posted on this Site. These privacy notices provide a level of detail that we cannot provide in this more general description of our privacy practices. For example, certain pages of this Site may contain privacy notices providing details about the Personal Information we collect on those pages, why we need that information, and choices you may have about the ways we use that information.
-
We collect Personal Information when you wish to use certain features of the Site, such as applying for a job, fellowship, or volunteer position, requesting for more information, joining one of our programs, subscribing to our newsletter or updates, responding to a survey, providing us with feedback, or communicating with us. When you choose to use these features, we may ask you to provide information such as your full name, email address, phone number, company, city and state of residency, date of birth, what schools you attended, and other personal information (“Personal Information”). You control the types of Personal Information that you provide; however, our response may be limited or not available if you do not provide enough information.
Through the Site, including by cookies, web beacons and other technologies, we may also automatically receive certain information from your interaction with our Site, such as how frequently certain areas of the Site are visited and the activities you perform on our Site. This information typically includes your IP address, the name and version of your operating system, the name and version of your browser, the date and time of your visit, the pages you visit, the pages that directed you to our Site, and the region from which you are visiting our Site. Collecting this information requires use of cookies that are functional, persistent and necessary for the proper operation of the Site.

In addition to the necessary cookies described above, we and our third-party vendors may use cookies, web beacons, pixels, and other similar technologies on our Site and in certain communications to you. They serve a variety of functions, including enhancing your experience on our online services, personalizing the Site (e.g., remembering your language preferences), helping us analyze use of the Site, and assisting with advertising and marketing our products and services. We may also use cookies for marketing including behavioral advertising purposes.
Certain of our third-party vendors may also associate information collected via cookies, pixels, and similar technologies with other information about you, such as knowing if you clicked on our profile on their website, for marketing purposes. We may use such information to send you marketing communications via email or direct mail. You may opt out of receiving marketing communications from us by contacting us using the contact information in the “Contact Us” or “Updating Personal Information and Preferences; Opting Out” sections below or by unsubscribing in the marketing email.
Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you may be able to modify your browser settings to decline cookies or notify you when a cookie is being set. You may not be able to opt out of “essential” or “strictly necessary” cookies that are necessary for the Site to function. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to sign in or use some of the features offered on our Site, and the Site may not function as intended. If you have multiple devices/browsers or change devices/browsers, or if your browser automatically clears cookies, you will need to disable cookies for each such computer or browser and may need to re-select your choices every time you visit the Site.
Do Not Track is a privacy preference that users can set in their browsers. We do not currently recognize or respond to browser initiated Do Not Track signals, as the Internet industry is currently still working on Do Not Track standards, implementations, and solutions.

We may use third-party web analytics services on the Site, such as those of Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. These analytics services use cookies and other similar technologies, as described above, to help us analyze use of the Site, including by noting the third-party website from which you arrive. If Personal Information is collected by such technology, it will be disclosed to or collected directly by these services, who use such information to evaluate your use of the Site and your online behavior for their own purposes. We do not control any of these third-party analytics services. Some state laws may deem use of these third-party analytics services to be our “sharing” of your Personal Information with such third-party web analytics services, as defined in the applicable state law. You may opt-out of our sharing your Personal Information by blocking our collection of your information through cookies and similar technologies.
If we collect Personal Information through use of Google Analytics, we do not control Google’s use of such information. We encourage you to visit Google’s Privacy Policy to exercise your options as to Google’s collection and use of your information. You can see how Google collects and uses your information through this site: myactivity.google.com. To prevent Google from using your information for Google’s analytics, you may install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
For other third-party analytics services, please visit those respective privacy policies for information on how you may control their use of your Personal Information.

We may allow third parties ad networks, ad servers, and other advertising partners, to place cookies or other similar technologies (as described above) on your browser or device to collect information about you to assist in the delivery of relevant advertising related to our products and services. For example, if you visit our Site, you may see ads for our Site on other websites you visit. Some state laws refer to this as targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising. You may opt-out of targeted and cross-context behavioral advertising through the cookie management pop-up that appears on our website.
We neither have access to, nor does this Privacy Notice govern, the cookies or other similar technologies that may be placed by third parties on the device you use to access the Site through a website or app not controlled by us. If you are interested in more information about tailored browser advertising and how you can generally control cookies from being put on your computer to deliver tailored advertising, you may visit the Digital Advertising Alliance ("DAA") Consumer Choice Page or the Network Advertising Initiative ("NAI") Consumer Opt-Out Page for more information and to opt out of receiving tailored advertising from companies that participate in the DAA and NAI programs. You also may opt-out from Google Analytics for Display Advertising or the Google Display Network by using Google’s Ads Settings.
Opting out from one or more companies listed on the DAA Consumer Choice Page or the NAI Consumer Opt-Out Page will opt you out from those companies' delivery of interest-based content or ads to you on the browser that you use to perform the opt-out, but it does not mean you will no longer receive any advertising through our Site or on other websites. Also, if you replace, change, upgrade or reset your browser or device, or delete your cookies, or use a browser that automatically clears cookies, you may need to use these opt-out tools again. Additional information is available on the DAA and NAI sites. We do not control the DAA and NAI opt-out mechanisms, nor do we make any representations about the effectiveness or continued availability of these mechanisms.
